Maps

What Are Maps?

Project: map your home

In this lesson, we’ll define what maps are, why they’re useful and what kinds of information they give us.

We’ll then discuss architecture ‘maps’ and learn how to make a map of our own home! Preschool and Elementary learning extension guides have been provided to help aid further study.

How Cities Are Made

Project: DIY playmap

In this lesson, we’ll answer the questions: how do cities get designed? Who decides what goes where and have cities always looked like they do today?

We’ll then try our hand at being a city planner and design a ‘playmap’ that can be used as a play mat and a learning tool. Preschool and Elementary learning extension guides have been provided to help aid further study.

Mapping our World

Project: stained glass map

In this lesson, we’ll cover some important map skills - how to read a compass, identifying hemispheres and knowing the names of the oceans and continents.

We’ll then create a stained glass map that can be used as a learning tool or a beautiful piece of art.  Preschool and Elementary learning extension guides have been provided to aid further study.
