Printing the Rainbow: Exploring fruits and vegetables with rainbow inks
for ages 4-7
Join teaching artist Sarah Johnston as we explore printmaking tools and make rainbow prints of fruits and vegetables. We will take inspiration from artist and illustrator Lois Ehlert and her books Eating the Alphabet and Planting a Rainbow to talk about the parts of a plant that we eat-- from roots and stems to leaves and fruit. After mixing up a rainbow in inks we will use brayers to roll ink onto cut pieces of veggies and fruit before printing the amazing shapes and textures to build our rainbows. We will be getting messy with everything from carrots, broccoli, and celery to lemons, apples, and bananas! Your child might even be inspired to try a new food after making their rainbow of food!
