Project: a Worm Compost Tower

In this lesson, we’ll talk about the differences between bugs, insects and minibeasts and discover 3 garden superheroes!

Then we’ll learn how to recreate a simple worm compost tower for your garden!  Preschool and Elementary learning guides have been provided with free printables, game ideas and book lists to help aid further study.

 

Bees and Pollination

Project: a mason bee house

In this lesson, we’ll talk about the bees and the process of pollination.  What exactly is pollination?  Are there other animals that pollinate other than bees?  Why is pollination so important anyway?  Find out the answers and more in the video.

Spiders and their Webs

Project: a spiderweb geoboard

In this lesson, we’ll learn the differences between arachnids and insects, and how to identify 5 types of spiderwebs.  We’ll also answer the questions: 

Which spiders are poisonous?  Do all spiders make webs? Are spiders good to have around?

We’ll then learn how to make a simple geoboard using wood and nails.  Preschool and Elementary learning extension guides have been provided with free printables, game ideas and book lists to help aid further study.


Beetle Buddies

Project: Build-a-bug

In this lesson, we’ll learn some surprising facts about beetles and find out which beetles are great (and not so great) to have around.  We’ll also answer the question, why do fireflies glow?  

We’ll then learn how to set up an open-ended activity with your child to recreate beetles (or other minibeasts) using natural materials.
